NEO Stargate 5/5
So this is the song that the group decided to use to promote their album. I say that it was a good choice! This song is very strong, and leaves a strong impact on you. The beginning, with the dramatic music is unnecessary in my opinion. It’s way too long. I wish they had cut it out for the CD, but oh well. This song has come really catchy parts. I like the part in the beginning (the high notes), as well as the music after that, which makes me want to dance. My favorite part is the Maiagatte part in the chorus. The solo’s near the end of the song are well done. This song is beyond amazing. The lyrics, and the meaning of the song is so deep! I love it. Way to go momoclo, for creating a beyond catchy song that’s deep as well.
Kasou Dystopia 5/5
After the dramatic NEO Stargate, this song is much more lighthearted and playful. The chorus is extremely catchy. The members sing the high notes well. I love the part after the chorus where they sing hikare hikare… and all of their voices blend and harmonize. Plus, this song has fun instrumentals, and a nice rock edge. This is a solid song, and I like it a lot.
Mourestsu Uchuu KouKyoukyouku Dainana Gakushou “Mugen no Ai” 5/5
I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this song yet before. This is the song where I’d say was the turning point in their careers, where everyone started to really look at momoclo. This song is amazing! It has a very heavy rock sound. The instrumental is dark and interesting. I love the chorus. Every time they say mouretsu, I want to scream morestu with them! I love the part where they say ai ai saa. The speaking part is really cool. The vocals, especially Kanako’s, are a little iffy. The PV for this is amazing. One of the groups strongest singles!
5 The Power 5/5
I love the beginning of this song. It starts off slow, then gets faster until there’s a steady beat. The instrumental is amazing. Finally! An idol group that does rap. And they pull it off too. They don’t sound silly or ridiculous. After the rap comes an extremely catchy chorus. Ayaka’s solo in the first chorus doesn’t sound as good as Momoka’s. Momoka hits that Ago o agete uketomeru with perfection. Her high notes sound sooo good! I love the little Mattete Mattete Wait! part. This song is definitely one of my favorites on the album! If only Akari was here, she’d own it.
Rodou Sanka 4.5/5
One of momoclo’s weakest songs. I guess its because it just doesn’t have the impact of their other songs. Like, it doesn’t have very much variation. I love the semi rapping in the beginning. The instrumental is also very nice to listen to, with all of the instruments. This would sound really good live. The chorus is still really catchy; they sound really good during the high notes. In conclusion, I like this song, it’s just not one of my favorites.
Get Down 4/5
This song also has an interesting and funky instrumental. Is that a xylophone? I fell like this song could have been awesome, with the cool music and all, but the girls sound like chipmunks… the verses are way too high for them! They sound too squeaky, and it gives me a headache. I love the Get down parts though. Those are really catchy. But the progressing ah’s are a little repetitive. This song is decent, but definitely could have been better if thought out more.
Otome Sensou 5/5
A lot of people liked Push Push better when this was released with it. They claimed that this was boring. How is this boring? It has a very cool instrumental, with fast lyrics. The Makiokose…part (the chorus) is really catchy. Momoka’s Saijoukyuu no Happiest is amazing. The ballad part near the end is amazing. It’s haunting, and beautiful. Their vocals sound amazing together. The song is split up into different parts. They all sound different, but somehow it works! It’s long, but it goes by fast. One of my favorite songs.
Tsuki no Gingami Hikousen 5/5
It’s not an idol album without a ballad. Some of their ballads in the past have not impressed me. At all. But this ballad is a ballad done right! The instrumental is beautiful, not boring. The vocals are strong, not soft and lifeless. The chorus is the strongest part. Momoka’s Gingami hikousen yozora ni ukabete is off the wall amazing! She sounds beautiful. The speaking part seems a little unnecessary; but they had to put something in there right? This is a very strong ballad. I have to say that this is their strongest ballad!
BIRTH Ø BIRTH 3.5/5
This is a song I’m disappointing in because it had soo much potential. The instrumental is interesting and otherworldly. It reminds me of LOST CHILD. But the chorus absolutely ruins the whole song! The notes are too high for the girls, and it sounds awful. It gives me a headache. This could have been an amazing song. Why did this get a MV? One of their other songs could have done better.
Joukyu Momogatari -Carpe diem- 5/5
Okay. We get a break from all of the rock and techno for a more laid back song. This song has a sort of latin/swing and mysterious feel to it. I love it! The chorus is amazing. But I think the vocals are the best part of this song. They sing so fast! Just like the did in a lot of their older songs. Like, there’s points in the song where I’m like how? JUST HOW. Ayaka’s part is really the part that shines. dubidubidabadadubidubi. What even is that? I hear Shiori and Reni in here, more than in any other song. It’s nice. The very ending part is cool as well. The composition for this song, and the energy is beyond amazing. This song is a combination of their old sound, with their new sound, and it’s by far one of the best tracks on the album.
Soratobu! Ozashiki Ressha 4.5/5
The guy from Z Denetsu is back!! In all seriousness, I like the train sounds. It’s a nice effect. This song is very childish. I like childish. momoclo does it well, but I’m not sure if I like this a lot. I don’t like the way they sing the verses. They sound 5 here. If they sung it normally, I would have liked it more. Despite the childish verses, the chorus is really catchy, but can get annoying and repetitive. Especially the let’s shout part. They HII part after the chorus is really cute. Overall, it’s a solid song, but a little annoying after a while.
Saraba, Itoshiki Kanashimi tachi yo 5/5
Momoclo’s recent single. It’s definitely darker than their past songs. The instrumental is sooo catchy. I can listen to it all day without the vocals. The verses are really strong here. I love the bridge, where they say Ikanaide…nakanaide. It’s haunting. And the part where they sing Soshite doko… is pretty with the piano. It really adds a warm feeling. I love the 1 2 And 3 4 5 part. In conclusion, I think that this is one of momoclo’s strongest songs. It’s way different than what they’ve been doing!
Hai to Daimond! 4/5
And here we have another ballad. Can I just say that the beginning of the song with the piano is lovely. It’s the best part of the song. I think that this is a good ballad, but its not one of their best. I like the verses, the chorus is okay, with the harmonization. The biggest problem in this song is the vocals. Ayaka and Kanako sound really strained on those high notes, even Momoka. It makes me cringe. I think that Gingami and this should have switched places, because this doesn’t leave a big impact.
I have been out of the momoclo loop for a while. They got popular too fast, and I couldn’t keep up. Now, I’m back, listening to their new material, so that I can love them again. Battle and Romance is an extremely hard album to beat. It was full of awesome songs. This album is amazing, but I think that B&R is still my favorite.
Momoclo sort of has a new sound. Their new sound, I guess I would describe as otherworldly, techno, maybe even rock. It’s completely different from their lighthearted and silly idol songs. While I miss those silly songs the most, their new songs are still pretty good.
They’re getting really popular. I got into momoclo because they were crazy and silly. I hope they stay that way, despite increasing popularity, because I know groups that cater their music to their fans, instead of themselves, or don’t even try to make an effort anymore because they’re popular anyway.
In short, this was an enjoyable album. It’s worth the money. I’m excited to see where momoclo is going to go from here on out.
